Places of Worship

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi

United Arab Emirates

“If a man can arrange his religion so that it perfectly satisfies his conscience,it is not incumbent on him to care whether the arrangement is satisfactory to anyone else or not.” What a wonder it is! So grand, so solemn, so vast! And yet so delicate, so airy, so graceful …

  1. What incredible photos of an amazing mosque, what a monument of architecture and God-given skills to humans! Your sensitive approach to this topic is beautiful, Doda, I appreciate it very much!

One of your commenters above asked if they sing in the mosque, and the answer is yes, in the sense that westerners understand singing, muslims sing with no musical accompaniment, islamic songs of “dhikr” or memory, of God, and of course the very melodic and incomparable beauty of Quran recitation is so captivating, possible to induce a wonderful trancelike state of peace to the listener. I can only imagine the acoustics in a mosque like this must be amazing, and to hear Quran recited in this place must be unforgettably awesome! I hope, God Willing, I have an opportunity to experience this in this beautiful mosque sometime in my lifetime! Thanks for such a great post! ♥♥♥ ;^)

    • Aisha,Dear ! Why thank you for your rich and pithy comment,my friend ! Actually,it’s an interesting supplementary post to my main one.
Oh dear,oh dear, what a blunder I have made. The commenter,Charlotte, who is a very young and talented opera singer, asked me if they sing, and what I read was,if we sign any visitors’ book and write our impressions.OM ! Now I feel so embarrassed that you spotted it.It seems she hasn’t check out my reply to her comment, thank God ! Besides, she is so very busy !
Yeah, dear Aisha, what you hear is,as you said above, the so melodic:

Hope one day you can visit this monumental mosque which is a real gem Architecture wise and not only … I reckon you have an easy access to Abu Dhabi from Egypt,it is not that far.
All my love ❤ and hugs, Doda 🙂

      • Lol, some days just trying to find a store with peanut butter makes me feel like I’m on the moon! Abu Dhabi would be awesome, tho, lol, right after the store with the peanut butter!

That’s too funny about the comment, no worries, we’ve all made some ridiculous mistakes in that department! ♥♥♥ ;^)))

        • Lol or not lol,I can’t follow the peanut butter store and Abu Dhabi connections.
I’m so sorry,I am not with you,I can’t follow your parallelism ; don’t forget that the English language is not my mother tongue, I use English as a lingua franca to communicate with people from all over the world.Anyway, thanks for coming by and also for correcting me on the spot …

          • Oh, I’m so sorry to confuse you! I mean only that Egypt is not far from Abu Dhabi if you look at a map, but if you live in my reality, my little egyptian village seems like it is so far away from everything! Sometimes it feels like I am living on the moon, when the things I used to love to eat (lol like peanut butter) are not available in the tiny little stores around here. Is peanut butter something Greeks like to eat? Egyptians don’t know about it, but it is originally a food from africa. I know it has nothing to do with Abu Dhabi, though, except that they are both far away, out of my reach!
Hugs to you, dear Doda! I appreciate very much your ability to use english, and I am thankful for your friendship! ♥♥♥ ;^)

            • Hi there, dear Aisha ! Now that you have clearly and extendedly developed the whole story behind your laconic comment,I can see so much reason in it and I do sympathise with you.You have sacrificed your previous life style on the altar of love …
Peanut butter is a very American product, but widely used in Greece, and as far as I know it’s good for you.
I have to leave the Abu Dhabi mosque now, with a smile …
Eventually,I loved the stories behind the story … Just a funny anagram mistake that generated a pleasant chat!
From now on, “Sing and Sign” will be a lovely byword (byphrase) just between you and me …
Have a splendid day,my friend ! Kind thoughts and love to you,
              Doda 🙂
