The Old Vic Theatre moves to the Ancient Epidaurus Theatre ~ Kevin Spacey was literally born to play Richard III …
The Old Vic Theatre from London to Epidaurus
Dating to the 4th century B.C. and arranged in 55 semi-circular rows, remains the great masterwork of Polykleitos the Younger.It is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and can hold up to 14,000 spectators,who are able to hear actors and musicians–unamplified–from even the back row of the architectural masterpiece.
It was here in 2011 that Kevin Spacey and his acting troupe put on Shakespeare’s “Richard III” ,directed by Sam Mendes.
After his performance, Spacey posted the following comment on his Twitter account: “Never felt anything like performing R3 on the stage of the Epidaurus. Will carry experience with me rest of my life.” Spacey acted for 3 nights in front of around 28,000 spectators and each night he received a roaring standing ovation from a grateful audience. Obviously, Spacey was equally grateful for the opportunity to act on one of the world’s most special stages, the Epidaurus Theatre.Kevin Spacey couldn’t find a role in Shakespeare better suited to him than Richard III – Sam Mendes said ” I’d always felt that Spacey was born to play this part ” …

Oh Doda, this was fascinating! The Theatre of Epidaurus is utterly lovely! I enjoyed the photos, and your words so much, and the video was extremely informative. I espec. enjoyed learning how the acoustics were designed to perfection, and of course the ancientness of this marvel is also so glorious. I can imagine K. Spacey and Sam Mendes made a powerful duo, and then in the most fantastic theatre of all time — what an incredible performance that must have been. The Theatre of Epidaurus is an amazing structure. The largest, with the best acoustics, just magnificent! The video and your article conjure up brilliantly what a marvellous experience it would be to be in the audience or to be an actor – the Greek genius at work then and now! What a remarkable genius design! Thank you for the video, dear Doda! Back in the 4th C BC, Greek had already have the physics and engineering theory and knowledge to design and build these magnificent architecture. I visited Athens in 2007, it was a great trip and learned much about Greece.

Today is the day I have time to devote to read your post indepth.. In fact I read it twice through.
I have not been to this wonderful amphitheatre but I have been in one in Cyprus.. And with guided tour found it fascinating.. How it was also a market town and we were even shown what were the Public toilets which had running water beneath their stone seats.. pot pipes channelled water and it was just an awesome place to sit on the steps and connect in one’s mind with those ancient souls who had sat right where I was sitting..
No wonder Kevin Spacey felt so thrilled with his own performance as he too must have re-connected back in time as he enacted those wonderful lines of Shakespeare..
I feel also for your lines here also Doda when you said

If only people understood dear Doda how our thoughts vibrations impact upon the world we see.. Is it any wonder we see so much violence and hear of so much bloodshed when it is constantly being projected out in the world.. Not only via the media.. But lets think of all the TV shows, All the Films, All the virtual reality Games on Games consoles and how our younger generation is being geared up to accept violence and killing as the norm… And how dispassionate and detached some of them are as play out their fantasies within the reality of this world..
Generations are now growing with more ingrained Fear, as we divide ourselves further still separating ourselves putting labels upon those who are different or appear a threat..
Like the Poor Immigrants seeking safety and sanctuary from the horrors of their own daily lives.. We FEAR them.. why? because we are told and have grown up believing there is not enough.. And our Greed to keep what is ours overpowers what should be compassion and a time to share..
The Greed of the World is destroying the planet.. Both Flora and Fauna as well as our human lives..
Why do the innocent die?? I believe there is a plan at work.. We do not always see this plan, and can not begin to understand Karma and how that in itself plays out Doda..
Have you read the Book Many Lives, Many Masters? Dr Brian Weiss. There is a free down load on the net I noticed of this amazing account of inbetween lives … 🙂
In the mean time we have to believe that those who take their transit do so knowing they are aiding our Earth’s own evolutionary changes.. It is said this period would be chaotic but it is also a time of cleansing..
Not only our own Earth’s pollution, but our corruption and ways of being are also going to be tested and brought to the fore..
Many more things will be exposed in due course dear Doda and all is part if you like of its own Karmic cleansing.. As we clear out evil and the Darkside of our natures and bring in the light of Love once again..
This period of time is when we chose to be born.. And Many more people who are the ones who are facing such turmoil now are stronger even than us… For they also chose their pathway.. Even though our paths are not always set in stone.. For each thought each action and reaction contribute to the changes…
This is why I believe dear Doda that our thoughts sent out of compassion, and love.. Not in judgement or Anger and hatred.. Help to alter and bring about that Change which will enable us to move forward with less bloodshed..
I pray constantly to those who cause pain and send them love, as hard as that is to understand.. IF we add only our negative vibrations we then are only adding to that mixture..

Presumably,you’re talking about the magnificent Greco-Roman (Amphi)Theatre in the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates (Apollo of the woodlands) as it is mentioned in Homer which is in Limassol.Thank God the Romans didn’t alter the Epidaurus Theatre at all.

Such an enlightening post Doda! It’s amazing that the acoustics of these ancient theaters are even better than today’s.I am reminded of the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City where one hear a pin drop on the stage, without any amplification.

Almost all Monuments and Temples were constructed in places where there was ample positive energy from the electro-magnetic fields around and under the space.Don’t forget it was built in the Sanctuary of Asklepios,it was part of the Asklepieion…
