Have you ever visualised thoughts that you couldn’t verbalise?The visual language of the echoes in the Archipelagos and the Pythagorean Harmony in Time and Space blended symbols and “white marble stones” of the western civilization,deep into the sapphire waters of the Ionian Sea.
It was just an Interaction between Geometry and Nature’s Beauty.A play between Stereognosis and the Perception of Proportions …
Stereognosis …
The Old-fashioned Charms and the Unspoiled Beauty of the Sleepy island of Paxos,the Tiniest of the Seven Ionian islands,awakened my senses and started blending Ancient Columns from the Temple of Zeus at Olympia with Marble tables engraved with Meander Patterns.
The Natural Port Gaios,resembling a Fiord
The Natural Port Gaios,resembling a Fiord,is created by the verdant islet St Nicolas.The Port Town is spreading with flair along the waterfront and up to the hilly area.It took its name after Gaios,the pupil of Paul the Apostle,who brought Christianity to the island.
The Sleepy island of Paxos
Mythology says that Poseidon,the Greek God,hurled his powerful Trident to the southern tip of Corfu, which floated and formed the Paxos Island.He created this island as a solitary peace and resting haven for him and his lady Amphitrite.
And History says that it dates back to prehistoric times …
And I ? I just went on playing with Stereognosis and the Perception of Proportions,I could visualise what I couldn’t verbalise …

And,in the morning asks where the stars sleep … Beautiful the Verdant island of Paxos and the Sapphire Blue Waters that travelled my imagination to Stereognosis and to the Perception of Proportions.

I am so delighted you travelled with me and that you enjoyed the colours and the pure light of my country through a different perspective and an odd awekening of my senses.The little quaint island with the little coloured houses looked like a naive painting,the greens and blues were gently kissing each other and I,like Heraclitus,started to put forward an alternative to straight observation.Does reason allows the observer to go beyond the observational given?Is the world ordered,guided and unified by a rational structure,a single divine law,which is “logos”?The divine cosmic logos was spreading over the little island and when it met the logos that resides in my soul,a geometrical play excited my imagination and the faculty of reason.The static universe didn’t exist,I could move and change anything I wanted and that’s what I did according to stereognosis and the perception of proportions …
Don’t ask me now why I plunged my marble table into the blue ocean.Just look at the naive painting of Paxos and move whatever you want.You can bring it,if you like,even into the back yard of your garden where Anna’s hummingbirds happily fly and chirp … .Thank you dear friend Jet for your praiseful and rich comment 🙂 ★¨`

Stereognosis, a new word for me! If we didn’t have sight this is how we would encounter the world through touching and feeling. As I am such a visual person I think I would have trouble with this but it would be an interesting exercise. Anyway, I enjoyed what you did with some of your images. This is why I love art of all kinds because it turns “reality” upside down and sideways and makes us perceive the world from a different viewpoint. I think dreams are like that…. mine certainly are… taking everyday occurrences and jumbling them up so they make no sense except in the dream everything seems very logical… when I wake up I realize it really made no sense in the “practical” world! Who is to say which is correct? Doda, you always make me think…

Presumably,our unseasonable warm weather and the deep blue waters travelled me beyond ordinary limits and bounds and I started plunging ancient colums and marble tables into the Archipelagos where old civilisations are buried.I wanted them to become one with the ruins at the bottom of the sea and then bring them out again to place them in “event horizons” where my senses would perceive the proportions in time and space.Stereognosis mingled with sentiments and “Mathematical Abstractions” and theories which define harmony in our universe and in our lives.That’s how I started playing,dear Roslyn,and as you said,”who is to say which is,correct”,what is rational or irrational.Thanks ever so much for your advanced thoughts and your approach to my stereognosis concept which was connected with the colours of my country and its pure light 🙂 xxx

I’ve been to Italy and several of the Greek islands, including Corfu, and I agree with you about the colour and great beauty of the sea. Yes, it’s a very true saying, and can be applied to so many things. Normally I love our English winters, when they are crisp and fresh. This year is very odd. It’s much warmer than it should be, with overcast skies all the time and a lot of rain. This makes the days very dark. I don’t mind the cold, but I do like plenty of daylight. I agree that constant hot sun is very draining – but it’s lovely to feel on the skin for a while. And your blue skies and deep blue seas are just so beautiful.
I really love Sorento and Nick and I had a wonderful holiday there – visiting Pompeii and Heculaneum, and the Amalfi Coast. 🙂

Indeed,the weather patterns are a bit odd this year.We have had unseasonably warm weather and we also had some torrential and catastrophic rains all over Greece,which is unusual for Greek standards.It might have to do with El Niño which will affect 2015-16 weather.No wonder you had a lovely time in those places in Italy.I treasure wonderful memories,they are places that you want to visit again and again.Our neighbouring country is a real gem 🙂 xxx

Photographs are two-dimensional (except the 3-D ones of course), and conveying the three-dimensional aspect of nature with a photograph is not easy to do. Yet you have done that with many of your photos! Congratulations, Doda!

It was fun for me too as I was placing and displacing anything I wanted and everywhere around,from my garden,where the marble table is,and up to the Ionian Archipelagos and then down to Ancient Olympia … Thanks for joining the play of my imagination and the perception of proportions in space.
