“She Lies”
The Story of ” She Lies” with the Shape of an Iceberg due to the Global Warming … Archimedes’ Principle won’t help Rising Seas …
A post For the Earth’s Future & the Struggles of Nature to reject any Man’s Intrusion in the Sea of Ice and in any Other Corner of our Planet …
Monica Bonvicini’s – “She Lies”,a symbol of Power & Magnificence in the North,is a monumental sculpture,in the fjord in front of the new Opera House in Oslo,built out of stainless steel and glass panels that measure approximately 12 x 17 x 16 m. It is a permanent installation,floating on the water in the fjord on a concrete platform which is 12 metres above the water surface.By turning around its own axis in correspondence to the tides and the wind it offers changing views through the reflections on the mirrored and semitransparent surfaces.
“She Lies” was commissioned by Public Art Norway – KORO,
Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and it represents in a visual striking way the shape of an iceberg,as if one would have, by circumstances due to the Global Warming,ended up in the fjord in front of the Opera House.She Lies is meant to be a monument about change,longing and hope.
*Bonvicini’s sculpture is a three dimensional interpretation of Caspar David Friedrich’s painting “Das Eismeer” 1823-24 (The Sea of Ice ) *
Helena was equally beautiful,she was about to set off her journey,to give joy to the travellers and tourists.
Further down on the shore of the fjord the harmony of the sceneries reminded me that Nature is a Temple.
Here high in air,unconscious of the storm,Nature rears its mystic form.
From Earth to Heaven,unwrought by mortal toil,charm after charm,sun-bright avenues,and green recesses transmuted by her wand.
In earth,sea,air,around,below,above,life’s subtle in Nature’s loom,solar beams wave back and forth,up and down over woods,green lawns,and sparkling streams;beauty’s fine forms attract the eyes,I wonder who changes your acts,dear Mother Nature …
Charm the listening Savage into Man …
And in Museums and Galleries,great artists’paintigs forebode the future,prophesies are intricately painted on their works … ;

Arne Ekeland’s painting,”The Last Shots”,in the National Museum-National Gallery of Oslo,is monumental in both size and content.
Highly complex shapes and figures symbolizing the capitalist society that Ekeland wanted to topple.In the background lies a city in ruins, but in the foreground,among the destruction and the fallen,little children are on the verge of creating a new society …
Shore birds happily follow “She Lies” every day as she floats on the water in correspondence to the tides and the wind …
When the sky is overcast,”She Lies” puts on her silvery-grey apparel,she is still elegant.

Dear Doda, this is such a beautifully meaningful post, it brought tears to my eyes. I know I’m a sentimental old fool, but the many problems facing the Earth today make me despair. You have used your wonderful photos and the pieces of artwork to highlight the issue that the Earth’s future lies ‘in the balance’. The stunning Iceberg sculpture says so much, as does Arne Ekeland’s complex painting. A very thought-provoking post for all of us, Doda. It’s time we all took our responsibilities to Mother Earth much more seriously. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤

She Lies is a beautiful sculpture. If only art could save our world! What a profound statement that would be. Unfortunately I despair that our planet is in the last throes of agony. We humans can create such beauty and at the same time we are a destructive force.

That is a meaningful sculpture and reminder to treat Earth with more respect. One has to ask: why such warning go unnoticed? Why we do not pay the dues attention to climate change? Well, the greed doesn’t want allow that to happen.
This Iceberg sculpture is definitely going to make people think. Within 40 years the climate might be already out of control. We have to act now. We really do.

Well I did later chew on what it meant to “hyper active blog” and it was a good path to go down – actually still thinking about it I’m a way – because I think I just realized how different of a blogger I am now after 5 months off – and also in a different season of life- with different short term interests (like the fiction and interview posts) hm – anyhow – also was realizing that readership will change naturally with the blogger’s pace and content evolution – ya know ?
Lastly – it reminded me that many many readers will not comment and will not even read full posts or even visit all true time – that is kind how it goes- ya know ?

Ha,ha,what a word I found to describe your brilliant and lively blog,Yvette.Off for 5 months?To me sounds quite reasonable since I was off for more than a whole year.I’m a completely amateur blogger and I keep it just for fun and post sporadically as I cannot afford heavy traffic lol … It’s very time consuming.I keep a Twitter account and I find it very practical as just in a few minutes you can tweet and R/tweet without spending hours.Btw,do you keep a Twitter account?If yes,I’d love to follow you.As for the Likes,yes,it’s a cult now,people leave them without even reading what you have posted.Or,they just leave a single word comment.It’s sad though because there isn’t any real communication and also shows the feverish pace of our lives,today.I’ll disappoint you,I have not any blog insights,but I can see plenty of remarkable bloggers around,who are very inspiring and influential and post almost every day.

well you had blog layered in your reply – a few things! and one big one I noticed was how Twitter fits you more. I have noticed that there are people who do twitter better than blogging and better than fb – and then I many facebookers cannot find a groove blogging. I am not sure how other media outlets tie in, but I have really noticed that with these three – people get into a mode of the Twitter groove (which might sadly change if they go past the 140 character limit – it is NOT a good idea IMHO) and then some get in other grooves – and so DODA – I see that you are comfy in the Twitter mode (like my souse) –
anyhow, sadly Twitter does not work for me and I am only peeking in there a few times a year – I like it for following the profit, but cannot find a groove there (or on fb).
oh and lastly, I think we differ on the single word comment – I think they have value. Many folks cannot easily move from reading and enjoying to then get into critically reflecting and sometimes they want to leave some type of comment – and I also don’t mind if folks skim and just note that – however, I don’t like folks who are trying to mass accumulate followers or who have other stuff going on, but we might miss some joy if we hold things too rigid – ya know? and you have inspired me to start a blog post about this topic….

An amazing post Doda. and wonderful pictures.. I had not heard of this monument before, and yes, while it may well serve as a reminder for rising oceans, it will not heal our earth. or cure us of our pollutant ways in which we seldom give a thought for our Earth Mother. Until that is those oceans rises, and warms to such a degree, those storms will intensify even more..
But maybe Doda that is what it is going to take.. Not a monument to shake us into our survival zones, as we wake up to ourselves, But Mother Nature may well be shaking us good and proper to get our attention to what we are doing upon our planets surface..
I really enjoyed your narrative Doda and was thrilled with the pictures and sculpture images also

We should add your thoughtful commentary to my post,dear Sue!Not long ago,nature showed us Her maniac face with all the catastrophic hurricanes,wild fires in U.A. & Europe,that last for weeks.Nature’s evolvement is unavoidable.In Aristotle’s treatise on Meteorology ,we read about such phenomena and he explains that since there will be no end to time and the world is eternal,we will see them happen.
However,what annoys me most is our personal responsibility for Mother Nature and our detrimental actions and mannerisms.I read such articles and my heart bleeds.Scientists support that the anthropogenic impact on the climate system,is obvious,which means that all these natural phenomena wouldn’t be so forceful and intense,if we were kinder to Her.Just have a look at the following link :

Thank you Doda, I will go look at your link my friend, and Sigh,, We have to alter our ways of BEing.. Our consumer habits, our ways of polluting and our disregard for nature and for each other..
I watched Planet Earth 11 last evening and the plight of our Poles is dire.. with Walrus’s not finding anywhere to rest, and looking at the words on your link I see penguins, So perhaps I already know what is coming as I read the other day how many penguins had perished.. It is awful and when the oceans warms, we get more storms as well..
Its going to only escalate.. And we are in Crisis!!.. Yet governments do nothing.. xx

One thought: I hope they have taken measures to prevent anything, ship or even a real iceberg, from colliding with She Lies.
